How to welcome your new nanny
Here are our 5 top tips for parents welcoming a new nanny.
Provide your nanny with all the relevant information
To best prepare your nanny to settle in, you could create a manual with all household and child-related information. This could include passwords, instructions for appliances and alarms, timetables of children’s classes, an address book of all the key contacts and places the nanny may find helpful.
2. Introductions
Regardless of how experienced your nanny is, it will be important to your nanny to get to know your family dynamic and all adults in your children’s life (extended family and friends, teachers, other parents, other nannies). Make sure your nanny feels welcome and familiar with everyone by introducing them to everyone.
3. Nanny card
Ensure you leave your nanny with sufficient funds to carry out her duties and cover children’s activities or your grocery shopping. Chat to us if you need recommendations for top-up debit cards.
4. First week review
Even if you have no questions or specifics to discuss, make sure you take the time to sit down with your nanny after the first week, talk about what went well and allow them to ask questions or share ideas. These are always perfect moments to let your nanny know you appreciate their hard work. You might have thoughts on things you’d like done differently and discussing things face to face as soon as you have a moment is the best way to encourage open communication from both parties and build a good professional relationship.
5. A little something to mark the beginning of a new chapter for all of you
A little note or a drawing from your children to let your nanny know they’re welcome and you’re all excited to work with them will go a long way.
